Even though the book is written in Dominican Spanish, it's so easy for me to relate to. In fact, it's a lot of what he's written in Spanish that had me in stitches at some of the most inappropriate times. I feel sad for the non-Spanish speaker who tries to read it, so much of the texture and innuendo is lost.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00038885104845754639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891756855374346500.post-9643433950729869082012-06-13T06:56:37.580-04:002012-06-13T06:56:37.580-04:00Letty, exacto. He and Alvarez are two authors who blew open the doors to my reading more diverse voices. So I look for these deep connections to authors and their characters and am now frequently disappointed when I don't find them.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00038885104845754639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891756855374346500.post-22338776611948889652012-06-12T12:23:48.116-04:002012-06-12T12:23:48.116-04:00I totally LOVED this book; as a Dominican myself I...I totally LOVED this book; as a Dominican myself I felt as if the book was written in Dominican Spanish, it was that personal and close. It was an advantage to really know Trujillo and what a fukú is, however I think readers of other nationalities will enjoy as well. Very interesting character indeed.MamiCoolhttp://www.lafamiliacool.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891756855374346500.post-82259308607549825942012-06-12T09:51:57.235-04:002012-06-12T09:51:57.235-04:00Junot writes a great story. I've never had the opportunity to read about characters with a Latino background who have all of these quirks.

And yes it is sad but that's another reason I like it. I love tragedies.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05638754322551651119noreply@blogger.com
